Nexium is a prescription medicine used for the short term management of mild to moderate esophagus problems in patients with difficulty swallowing food or food containing acid. It is also used to relieve severe stomach symptoms such as pain in the lower esophagus, and to prevent heartburn. Esomeprazole belongs to a group of medicines known as proton pump inhibitors.
Nexium works by preventing the production of proton pumps, the acid-forming chemical in the stomach cells. These pumps are responsible for producing and maintaining the acid in the food pipe. These cells are the responsible for producing and maintaining the stomach acid.

It is important to avoid grapefruit juice, as it may decrease the effectiveness of Nexium. This is because the juice may be processed and broken down by the body. Grapefruit juice is also a substance that can increase the risk of gastric problems, including esophageal ulcers. Speak to your doctor if you are experiencing symptoms of heartburn.
Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol before taking Nexium can increase the risk of stomach damage, such as a broken intestine or stomach cancer. However, alcohol is not recommended while you are taking Nexium.
